Bolle Kicker Tennis Sunglasses with Competivision

Bolle has a booth at the 2006 US Open, so I stopped by to check out their Performance Eyewear collection. The Bolle Kicker Tennis Suglassesare amazingly light and cool-looking, but the real test was whether they would improve my view of the ball. The Competivision lenses work by muting all colors except for the optic yellow of a standard tennis ball. I turned away from the booth to try it, and about ten autograph tennis balls that were being carried by kids suddenly popped out at me. Granted, these are big tennis balls, but they were also a couple of hundrd feet away. Add rubber nose pads and temple tips and you have a nice pair of lenses for the court.

Nike Maxsight Sport-tinted Contact Lenses

You can't hit a ball that you can't see, so Nike has thought of a way to see the ball better. The amber version of their Maxsight Sports-tinted Contact Lenses selectively filters out certain wavelengths of light, causing a fast-moving yellow tennis ball to stand out against the background of the court. These lenses seem legit; they're made by Bausch & Lomb and come in both prescription and non-corrective versions. Nike is offering a free trial pair if you visit a participating eye doctor for an exam. I'll try anything that might improve my court vision. Plus, imagine how scary I will look with orange eyes.
